What are Memorial Gifts?
To remember someone keeps his or her spirit alive in everyone's heart. You can remember someone with your donation to Blue Ridge Hospice. By providing the name and address of the patient's family contact, we can notify this person of your gift.


How can I include Blue Ridge Hospice in my will?
To include hospice in your will, you should first notify an attorney. We have listed below some example phrases that may help you to get started with this communication:

For a specific amount of money or a designated property:
"I hereby give and bequeath to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite #405, Winchester, VA, 22601, $_______." (For real estate and personal property, include the exact location and legal description.)

For a percentage of your estate:
"I hereby give and bequeath to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite #405, Winchester, VA, 22601 _______% of my estate."

For a residual bequest:
"All the residual of my estate, including real estate and personal property, I hereby give and bequeath to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite #405, Winchester, VA, 22601."

What should I know about "Planned Giving"?
Please let us know of your giving plans. If you have already designated Blue Ridge Hospice as the beneficiary of a planned gift, or would like more information about Wills and Trusts, Gifts of Stock and Real Estate, Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Remainder Unitrusts, Designating Blue Ridge Hospice as beneficiary of a life insurance policy, or Retirement Plans, please contact us.

Can I make a "restricted" or "directed" donation?
If you would like to make a restricted donation to Blue Ridge Hospice, you may designate any of the following operating funds:

Computer Equipment & Software
Music Therapy
Patient Care Funds
Residential Center

What is a gift of life insurance?
Blue Ridge Hospice can be named as a beneficiary of or owner of a life insurance policy. Making a gift of life insurance enables you to arrange a future gift to hospice without financial impact during your lifetime. Charitable tax deductions may also apply to these gifts.

How can I make a gift of property?
Through a "life estate gift", you can donate your house, condominium, or other property to Blue Ridge Hospice now, but continue to use it throughout your lifetime. If you wish, you can also provide for your spouse to use it throughout his or her lifetime as well. When you and your spouse can no longer use the property, or choose not to use the property, Blue Ridge Hospice inherits it.

What is a charitable trust?
A trust is a special type of "holding" device for assets. Basically, you assign a certain amount of your assets to the trust; the trust "holds" them and pays out the income from those assets according to your instructions. Charitable trusts enable you to make a sizable contribution to Blue Ridge Hospice while receiving significant tax deductions and benefits.
