Hospice services offered include:
1. Nursing Services provided by or under the supervision of a registered nurse. Nursing care is available routinely on a 24-hour basis.
2. Medical Social Services provided by a qualified social worker under the direction of a physician.
3. Physician Services performed by a doctor of medicine serving as the Blue Ridge Hospice Medical Director and physician member of the interdisciplinary team.
4. Counseling services provided to the terminally ill patient and family for the purpose of assisting the patient through the emotional and psychological stages related to impending death; and the training and support of the caregiver and family members in their role and emotional process related to this event. Spiritual and dietary counseling are also available.
5. Bereavement counseling is offered to any family members, caregivers or significant relations for up to one year following death. This service is offered in the form of individual counseling, support group, in-services and telephone outreach. Support is also offered to the community at large.
6. Short-term Inpatient Services in a hospital for acute conditions which require inpatient care and are indicated in the patient's Plan of Care (i.e. pain control or symptom management).
7. Inpatient Respite Care is furnished as a means of providing temporary relief for the caregiver on an occasional basis and for periods of up to five (5) consecutive days, as space in contracted facilities is available.
8. Medical Equipment and Supplies are available for self help and personal comfort as indicated in patient's Plan of Care.
9. Prescription Drugs needed for the relief of pain and control of symptoms caused by the terminal illness and indicated in patient's Plan of Care are provided.
10. Certified Home Health Aides are available to provide personal care and help maintain a safe and sanitary environment. Aide services are provided under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
11. Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy will be provided for purposes of symptom control or to enable the patient to maintain daily activities.
12. Continuous Nursing Care will be provided for as much as 24 hours/day during periods of crisis as necessary to achieve palliation or management of acute medical symptoms while maintaining the patient at home.
13. Bereavement Counseling will be provided to the patient's family after his/her death, up to one year following the death of the patient.
